3 Mistakes to Avoid When Promoting Your Nonprofit Event on Social Media

Mistake 1: Sharing the exact same content (graphic/invite) over and over again.

What to do instead: Change it up with video (inviting them to attend) and photos to capture attention.

Mistake 2: Using a countdown, “8 days until the event, 7 days until the event…” It doesn’t compel people to sign up and followers often see posts on different days, so it’s not helpful.

What to do instead: Highlight different aspects of the event (highlight vendors, entertainment, thank your sponsors, promote your presenters/speakers) and explain why someone should attend.

Mistake 3: Sharing a QR code instead of a link. QR codes are great for printed materials, but not social media. If your audience is on their phone, they may not do the extra steps to take a screenshot and scan it.

What to do instead: Make it easy and include the direct link to sign up.
